Rights and entitlements of insured persons under the Directive

• entitlement to reimbursement of costs for healthcare provided in another Member State. Healthcare is initially paid for by the patient and the costs are then reimbursed by the patient’s health insurance company. A patient is entitled to reimbursement up to the rate that the health insurance company would pay for the same healthcare to a national/domestic healthcare provider,
• entitlement to reimbursement of costs for the purchase of medicines or medical devices if they are paid for from public health insurance in the State of insurance (State of affiliation), up to the amount that would be reimbursed in the territory of State of insurance (State of affiliation),
• entitlement to medicines and medical devices prescribed in another Member State that the State of affiliation, i.e. recognition of prescriptions
• entitlement at least to, a copy of written or electronic medical records when cross-border healthcare is provided,
• the right to the protection of personal data when personal data is processed,
• the right to receive relevant information from the healthcare provider in order to make an informed choice, including information on treatment options and the availability, quality and safety of healthcare,
• the right to receive clear and transparent invoices from the healthcare provider and clear information on prices (no discrimination of patients from other Member States when providing of cross-border healthcare),
• to right to receive from the healthcare provider information on their authorisation or registration status, their insurance cover or other means of personal or collective protection with regard to professional liability.
